Journey to Sunday Best
By the time she auditioned for the BET televised gospel singing competition Sunday Best, she was already a producer, songwriter, and local artist, but had failed to gain a national following. Having auditioned for American Idol before and not advancing beyond preliminary rounds, she auditioned for Sunday Best as a bit of a "last shot," for her singing career. It was dually a "last shot" in that she had lost her home to foreclosure the day before the Sunday Best audition. Having gone through two divorces, she was struggling to stay afloat financially. Friends and family encouraged her to pack up the things she could from her evicted house and make the drive from Florida to Atlanta. Wearing socks and flip flops, Johnson was almost eliminated because her appearance was not "sunday best," as she had been forced to leave many of her clothes and shoes behind, but ultimately blew the judges away with her performance of "This is the Day That the Lord Has Made." On June 20, 2010, Le'Andria Johnson was crowned the winner of the 3rd season of BET's Sunday Best.
